Bank & Credit Union Signs

Name the branch from the road, route drivers to the right lane, and keep rate messages compliant.

The short answer

Bank signs and credit union signs identify the branch, guide drivers to the lobby, drive-up lanes and ATM, and often carry an LED message center for rates and community news. Federal rules shape the required insurance signs inside and any rate advertising, while local code shapes what stands outside. Many branches pair a monument sign with building letters.

Quick answers

Common questions.

Do bank signs need to say Member FDIC?

Not always. FDIC rules exempt signs or plates in bank offices or attached to the building from the official advertising statement, but advertisements that promote deposit products generally need it. A freestanding sign or a message center running deposit ads deserves a compliance review. This is a general summary, not legal advice.

Can credit union signs show dividend rates?

Yes, under NCUA Part 707. A stated rate of return must be an annual percentage yield, and a dividend rate may appear only alongside it and no more prominently. Outdoor media get a partial exemption from other disclosures. Indoor signs that state a rate must tell members to contact an employee about fees and terms.

Where does the FDIC official sign go?

At each teller window or station where insured deposits are usually and normally received, at 7 by 3 inches or larger with black lettering on a gold background. Where deposits are taken in other areas, the sign must be large enough to be legible from anywhere in those areas.

Is a time and temperature display still worth it?

For many communities, yes. When a Jefferson City, Missouri bank replaced its 30-foot pylon with a three-sided message center, the city's approval required it to keep showing time and temperature for residents. A message center can rotate time and temperature with rates and community news.

What do bank signs cost?

National guides put monument signs at $5,000 to $20,000 or more installed, channel letters at $4,000 to $20,000, and outdoor LED signs at $750 to $30,000. These are third-party estimates, not Suntronix pricing. Suntronix prices each custom project around the site, and financing may be available for qualifying projects.

How high should the copy on a branch monument sign be?

USSC strongly recommends that sign copy sit no less than seven feet above grade, because copy at or below five feet can be blocked by other vehicles. Local codes may cap monument height lower, so check yours and weigh a taller base against the code limit.
