Auto Dealership Signs

Be found from the highway, guide buyers to the right door, and advertise inventory within the rules.

The short answer

A dealership sign system has three jobs: identify the store and its brands from the road, guide customers to sales, service and parts, and show current inventory or offers. Pylons and message centers do the roadside work. Any vehicle price shown on a sign must meet FTC pricing rules.

Quick answers

Common questions.

Can I show vehicle prices on my dealership's LED sign?

Yes, if the price is one any customer can walk in and pay, including all mandatory dealer fees, and it is the most prominent amount shown. The FTC's 2026 FAQs say roadside signs are covered. If the full price and disclosures will not fit legibly, leave the price off.

How much does a dealership pylon sign cost?

National guides put pylon signs at about $10,000 to $100,000 or more installed, and HomeGuide cites up to $200,000 for a large lighted double-sided highway sign. These are third-party estimates, not Suntronix pricing; height, face area and LED displays drive the cost.

What pixel pitch should a dealership message center use?

For displays read mainly from the road, a wider pitch keeps cost down, since pixel density and cost rise as pitch shrinks. If the display sits close to a slow entrance or the showroom, a finer pitch keeps vehicle photos clean. Test photos at the real distance first.

Can we add a message center to a manufacturer brand pylon?

Check your brand's image program first; some manufacturers control what can attach to the brand structure. If allowed, the pylon still needs a structural check for the added weight and wind area, and the local code must permit a message center there.

How many freestanding signs can a dealership have?

It depends on your code and frontage. Spokane, for example, allows one per 300 feet of arterial frontage in general commercial zones. Clemson, South Carolina allows one freestanding sign per street frontage for multi-business parcels. Your zoning office has the rule for your lot.
